We let teams spin up isolated database branches in seconds so every AI agent (and every developer) can safely experiment, test, and run workflows against production-like data without putting production at risk.We've raised $35M (Series A led by Index Ventures and Redpoint), backed by founders like Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), Shay Banon (Elastic), and Neha Narkhede (Confluent), with years of runway ahead.We're a remote-first team focused on making branching, data movement, and lifecycle management feel fast and dependable for modern software development.<h2>What You'll Be Doing</h2>You will join our Backend team and build the core services and infrastructure that power the Xata platform.<h3>Backend squads: Data Plane & Control Plane</h3>Our Backend team is organized into two (fluid) squads:<ul><li>Data Plane: the core runtime infrastructure that makes Postgres branches real: storage, replication/data movement, provisioning, orchestration, performance, and reliability.</li><li>Control Plane: the services and public APIs that manage and expose that infrastructure: user-facing product features, workflows/coordination, and close collaboration with Frontend.</li></ul>Depending on team needs and your strengths, you may work primarily in one squad.<h3>Our Stack</h3><ul><li>Go</li><li>PostgreSQL</li><li>Kubernetes</li><li>AWS & GCP</li></ul><h3>In this role, you will</h3><ul><li>Design and build core platform capabilities for our Postgres infrastructure.</li><li>Develop backend services and APIs that power our hosted and self-hosted offerings.</li><li>Work on database branching, storage systems, replication, lifecycle management, and orchestration.</li><li>Own projects end-to-end: identify opportunities, propose solutions, implement, deploy, and operate.</li><li>Contribute to our growing portfolio of open-source projects, including pgroll, pgstream, and other components of the Xata platform.</li><li>Collaborate closely with engineers across backend, frontend, product, and platform teams.</li><li>Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making.</li><li>Participate in on-call rotations and help maintain a reliable platform.</li></ul><h2>About You</h2><ul><li>You are highly self-directed and thrive in environments with a high degree of ownership. You identify opportunities, propose solutions, and drive projects from idea to production.</li><li>Significant experience building backend, infrastructure, or distributed systems software in production environments.</li><li>Strong programming skills in Go, C/C++, Java, or similar languages.</li><li>Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts (reliability, consistency, concurrency, failure modes).</li><li>Experience with cloud infrastructure and technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.</li><li>Familiarity with PostgreSQL and database systems.</li><li>Strong written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.</li></ul><h3>Nice to Have</h3><ul><li>Experience working on database technologies or PostgreSQL internals.</li><li>Experience building storage or infrastructure systems.</li><li>Experience developing with Rust.</li><li>Experience contributing to open-source projects.</li><li>Experience building developer tools or platform products.</li></ul><h2>Working at Xata</h2><ul><li>We're stable.
